SSIS Framework Manager is designed to manage the data integration lifecycle and enterprise DevOps for an SSIS Framework.
Alongside SSIS Framework Community Edition – our free and open source execution framework, SSIS Framework Editions – a comparison of Community, Standard, Professional, and Enterprise editions, and SSIS Framework Browser – our free utility that grants read-only access to our SSIS Frameworks; SSIS Framework Manager completes SSIS Framework management allowing data integration developers, data engineers, and release management teams to:
- Create and configure SSIS Framework Applications
- Modify existing SSIS Framework Applications metadata, such as:
- Application package execution order
- Application package environment references
- Application package parameters
- Application package execution property overrides
- Execute and Script SSIS Framework Applications
Create an SSIS Framework Application
To create a new SSIS Framework Application, enter the Application Name and click the Save button. Add Application Packages from the SSIS Catalog treeview by selecting a package and then clicking the Add button:
Configure execution order by selecting an application package in the Framework treeview, and then clicking the Move Up and Move Down buttons to arrange application package order of execution:
Configure Application Package Reference
Select the application package to open the Application Package view. Select the SSIS Catalog Reference name from the Application Package Environment:
Our SSIS Frameworks allow data integration developers, data engineers, and release management teams to configure a different SSIS Catalog reference for each application package.
Configure Application Package Parameters
Select the application package to open the Application Package view. Select Application Package Parameters and configure values to be replaced at runtime:
Our SSIS Frameworks allow data integration developers, data engineers, and release management teams to configure multiple executions of the same SSIS package – even in the same SSIS Application! For each Application Package execution, different application package parameter values (and selected reference, and application package property override values) may be applied.
Configure Application Package Property Overrides
Select the application package to open the Application Package view. Create Application Package Property Overrides and configure values to be replaced at runtime:
Property override values are persisted in our commercial Frameworks.
Scripting an SSIS Framework Application
We designed SSIS Framework Manager to facilitate enterprise DevOps and lifecycle management. An important function of enterprise DevOps is lifecycle management.
Lifecycle management is the promotion of code – SSIS (SSIS is software), in this case – from server environments configured for Development to server environments configured for Test. Pre-production and Production follow (see DILM Tiers for the SSIS Enterprise for more information about enterprise SSIS lifecycle management).
SSIS Framework Manager makes scripting simple. Simply select the SSIS Application to view the Application details, then click the Script button:
T-SQL scripts for individual artifacts are generated in the file system directory you select:
But Wait, There’s More!
SSIS Framework Manager also generates SFMPAC files which contain all the T-SQL file shown in the image above:
SFMPAC files are configured to auto-open in the DILM Deployment Wizard utility. Right-click the SFMPAC file and click Open:
The SFMPAC file opens the SSIS Framework Application T-SQL scripts in the DILM Deployment Wizard, ready to be promoted:
DILM Deployment Wizard is also used to deploy SCCPAC files generated by SSIS Catalog Compare Enterprise Edition to manage SSIS Catalog folders, projects, environments, environment variables, configured literals, and reference mappings deployments and code promotion in enterprise DevOps and lifecycle management.
In this manner, SSIS Framework Application metadata can be promoted through the enterprise Data Integration Lifecycle. Our SSIS Frameworks are SSIS Catalog-integrated and they also work in the cloud – so you may deploy SSIS Framework Manager files, individually or as SFMPAC files – to the cloud.
Conclusion
SSIS Framework Manager is designed to help data integration developers, data engineers, and release management teams practice enterprise DevOps and Data Integration Lifecycle Management (DILM) with SSIS.
